Cooking conversions

Recipes from Australia and the UK often use a metric cup of 250 ml, slightly larger than the US cup. A metric tablespoon is 15 ml (20 ml in Australia). For baking, weighing ingredients avoids these differences entirely.

Cubic units

One liter is exactly 1,000 cubic centimeters, and 1,000 liters make a cubic meter. A cubic foot holds about 28.3 liters, which helps when sizing fridges, freezers and storage.
