Frequently asked questions

What is a long weekend?

A three-day weekend created by a Monday or Friday holiday. A Tuesday or Thursday holiday becomes a four-day weekend with one PTO day (a "bridge" day).

How many paid holidays do US workers get?

There is no legal requirement for private employers. Most give six to eight paid holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas, often plus the day after Thanksgiving.

What happens when a holiday falls on a weekend?

For federal workers a Saturday holiday is observed on the Friday before and a Sunday holiday on the Monday after. Most employers follow the same rule.

How does the planner work?

It joins each holiday to the weekends on either side and only spends PTO on the workdays in between, so you see the most efficient way to stretch each holiday.
